Hey! I’m Ada!
Not that long ago I spent my days as a software account executive. Traveling a multi-state territory, chasing titles, a quota, and climbing the corporate ladder- that was all I could see defining my future. I did my best to fit into that box. I really did, but I couldn’t help feeling nostalgic about a life I wasn’t living.
Growing up in Northern California, I wanted to be a marine biologist. Then an architect. Then a photographer, an archeologist, a veterinarian. Maybe a teacher- the list could go on and on, but at no point do I remember wanting to work in software sales. All the paths I could have taken and didn’t- they stayed on my mind.
When 2021 rolled around and fate handed me my second get out of jail free card in the form of the second layoff I had experienced in two years- I embraced the opportunity.
I didn’t need to learn the lesson again and I didn’t want to look for another job as a software sales rep. Instead I chose to focus on the bigger stuff- sharing my voice, owning my authentic story, the “who” and the “why’s”.
Have I figured it all out? Of course not! But this time I’m choosing to be the author of my own story. I’m continuing to learn there is no instruction manual for this life. We can create the life we want to live. And I’m learning to be okay with that.
Whether I’m hiking, exploring, riding my peloton, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee, my intention is to enjoy the journey and share it so it might inspire others.
But of course, every story has a long version 🙂
